Baby Name Yash : More than 300 babies born in storm in Odisha, many families named newborn ‘yash’
Baby Name Yash: The Odisha administration is reeling under the cyclone ‘yash’. It has caused widespread destruction in the state. Meanwhile, more than 300 children were born in the coastal state and some families have named their newborns ‘yash’ after the cyclone.
Officials gave this information. Many of these children were born on Tuesday night, when the cyclonic storm hit the country’s eastern coast, while other children saw the light of the world when ‘yash’ struck 50 from Balasore district. Knocked near Bahanaga, kilometers south.
Sonali Maiti, a resident of the Parkhi area of Balasore, said that,
she could not think of a better name for her boy than ‘yash’, whose birth marks the cyclone’s arrival. Similarly, Saraswati Bairagi of Kendrapara district said that she named her newborn girl after the storm, thus everyone will remember the time of her arrival. Bairagi said, ‘I am very happy that my baby girl came into the world on a day that everyone will remember. I have named him ‘Yas’.’
Officials said similar reports had also come from other parts of the state.
‘Yash’ got its name from Oman. The word is said to have originated from the Persian language, and in English, it means ‘Jasmine’.
The state government had earlier stated that the list of people evacuated from the affected sites included 6,500 pregnant women, who were relocated from low-lying areas and cyclone-affected areas.
The government had said that many women, who were in the final stages of their pregnancy, were taken to the ‘mother home’ (delivery center) and other local hospitals.

ঘূর্ণিঝড় ইয়সের তাণ্ডবে সবচেয়ে ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ রাজ্য ওডিশা। মঙ্গলবার রাত থেকেই সেখানকার উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলে তাণ্ডব দেখাতে শুরু করেছিল ‘ইয়াস’ (Yash Cyclone)। সেখানকার প্রশাসন যখন ওই সাইক্লোনের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ে ব্যস্ত এবং প্রকৃতি যখন তার নিষ্ঠুর খেলা দেখাচ্ছে, ঠিক তখনই কেউ মঙ্গলবার রাতে বা কেউ বুধবার সকালে মিলিয়ে ওই রাজ্যে জন্ম নিল প্রায় ৩০০-রও অধিক শিশু। জানা যাচ্ছে, সেই সব শিশুদের বাবা-মারা ওই নবজাতকদের নাম রাখতে চান ‘ইয়াস’ (Baby Name Yaas)।
ওডিশার (Odisha) বালাসোরের বাসিন্দা সোনালী মাইতি বলছেন যে, ‘
তিনি তার সন্তানের জন্য ইয়াসের চেয়ে ভাল নাম ভাবতেই পারেন না।’ একইভাবে কেন্দ্রপাড়া থেকে আসা সরস্বতী বৈরাগী বলছেন, তিনি ঝড়ের পরেই নিজের বাচ্চা মেয়েটির নাম ‘ইয়াস’ রেখেছিলেন। এইভাবে প্রত্যেকে তাঁদের নবজাতকের আগমনের সময়টিকে স্মরণীয় রাখতে চেয়ে ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের নামেই নামাঙ্কিত করতে চায়।
এমনটাই জানালেন এক শীর্ষ স্থানীয় আধিকারিক। অপর এক নবজাতকের মা জানালেন, “আমার সন্তান এই দিনটিতে পৃথিবীতে এসেছিল যা সবার মনে পড়বে। আমি তার নাম রাখলাম ইয়াস।’
প্রসঙ্গত, ঘূর্ণিঝড় ইয়াস নামটি ওমান থেকে উৎপত্তি।
যার মানে হল দু:খ। পারসি ভাষা থেকে এই শব্দটি এসেছে। উল্লেখ্য, ওডিসা সরকার আগেই বলেছিল যে নিম্ন-সাইক্লোন ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ অঞ্চল থেকে স্থানান্তরিত হওয়া লোকদের তালিকায় প্রায় সাড়ে ছয় হজার গর্ভবতী মহিলা রয়েছেন। সরকার জানিয়েছে, অনেক মহিলা, যারা তাদের গর্ভাবস্থার শেষ পর্বে ছিলেন তাদেরকে স্থানীয় হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছিল।
তবে তাঁদের মধ্যে অনেকেই আশ্রয় শিবিরে সন্তান জন্ম দিয়েছেন। আর সরকারি তথ্য অনুযায়ী, ওই প্রসবকালীন সময়ে তাঁদেরকে সাহায্য করেছেন অঙ্গনওয়াড়ি এবং আশা কর্মীরা। এই মর্মে সুইট সুমন সাহু নামে এক অঙ্গনওয়াড়ি কর্মী শোনালেন তাঁর অভিজ্ঞতার কথা।
জানান, বাসুদেবপুর কমিউনিটি হেলথ সেন্টারে কর্মরত তিনি। তিনি বলছিলেন,অনেক গর্ভবতীই যেতে চাইছিলেন না। ৩০ মে ডেলিভারি ডেট দেওয়া হয়েছিল কালিদাসপুরের এক মহিলার। কিন্তু তিনি কোনওমতেই রাজি হননি। তবে ছাব্বিশে মে নির্ধারিত দিনের আগেই ওই মহিলা এক পুত্র সন্তানের জন্ম দেন।
বিধ্বংসী ঘূর্ণিঝড় ইয়াসের তাণ্ডব চলাকালীন বালেশ্বর ৫৮টি, ভদ্রক ৯৮টি, কটক ৬১টি, জয়পুর ৬৯টি , কেওয়নঝড় ৫৫টি, ময়ূরভঞ্জ ৩৬টি, পুরীতে ১০টি শিশু জন্ম নয়। এছাড়াও আরও কিছু নবজাতক জন্ম (New Born Baby) নিয়েছে বলেও জানা যাচ্ছে।
