Reason For Having Twins: আমাদের চারপাশে প্রায় দুজনের চেহেরা একই রকম দেখা যায়। বিশেষ করে যমজ সন্তানদের ক্ষেত্রে এমনটা হয়ে থাকে। তবে কেন যমজ সন্তান হয়। এর কারণ কি এ নিয়ে রয়েছে মানুষের ব্যাপক আগ্রহ।
যমজ সন্তান হওয়ার কারণ নিম্নে তুলে ধরা হলো-
চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞান অনুযায়ী, যমজ সন্তান জন্মের ক্ষেত্রে স্বামী বা স্ত্রীর কোনো হাত নেই। তবে এটি নির্ভর করে স্ত্রীর ডিম্বাণুর ওপর। এটা প্রায় সবাই জানে যে, স্ত্রী দেহের ডিম্বাণু ও পুরুষের শুক্রাণুর মিলনে তৈরি হয় ভ্রূণ। নারীর প্রতি ঋতুচক্রে শরীরে একটি ডিম্বাণু উৎপন্ন হয়। আবার অনেক ক্ষেত্রে দুটি ডিম্বাণুও উৎপন্ন হতে পারে। প্রায় একই সময়ে উৎপন্ন হওয়া দুটি ডিম্বাণু থেকে যমজ সন্তানের উৎপত্তি হয়ে থাকে।
সাধারণত এমনটিই জানা থাকলেও শুধু উৎপন্ন হওয়া ডিম্বাণুর সংখ্যার ওপর যজম সন্তান নির্ভর করে না। অনেক সময় একটি ডিম্বাণু ভেঙে দুটি হয়ে যাওয়ার ফলে যমজ সন্তানের জন্ম হতে পারে।
এ বিষয়ে ভারতীয় চিকিৎসক অরুণকুমার মিত্র তার ‘কন্যা, জায়া ও জননী’ গ্রন্থে লিখেছেন যমজ সন্তান দুইভাবে হতে পারে।
ভিন্নধর্মী যমজ:
সাধারণ দুটি ঊর্বর ডিম্বাণু থেকে এই ধরনের যমজের উৎপত্তি। এদের আকৃতি ভিন্ন ধরনের হয়ে থাকে। গায়ের রং, চোখ বা চুলের রংও আলাদা হয়। তবে উভয়ের রক্ত ভিন্নধর্মী নাও হতে পারে।
এই দুটি ভিন্ন ভ্রূণঝিল্লিতে অবস্থান করে এবং স্বতন্ত্র ফুল থেকে পুষ্টির সরবরাহ পায়। সাধারণত এসব যমজের একটি হয় ছেলে এবং একটি হয় মেয়ে। যেসব দম্পতি নিজেরা যমজ তাদের এ রকম যমজ সন্তান লাভের সম্ভাবনা বেশি।
অভিন্নধর্মী যমজ:
এরূপ যমজ সন্তানের উৎপত্তি একটি ডিম্বাণু থেকে। এই ডিম্বাণু স্বাভাবিক উর্বরতা লাভের পর দুটি সমান ভাগে বিভক্ত হয়ে দুটি ভ্রুণের সৃষ্টি করে। এটি একটি ভ্রূণঝিল্লির মধ্যে দুই ভাগে অবস্থিত থাকে এবং দুটি ভ্রূণ একটি ফুল থেকেই অক্সিজেন ও অন্যান্য পুষ্টি গ্রহণ করে। তা সত্ত্বেও অনেক সময় একটি ভ্রূণ অপেক্ষা অন্যটি বেশি বেড়ে যেতে পারে।

এ ধরনের যমজ সন্তান দেখতে একই রকম হয় আর দুটিই ছেলে বা দুটিই মেয়ে হতে পারে। অনেক সময় এদেরও দেহের গঠন, মুখাবয়ব, চুল বা চোখের রং হয় একই রকম।
