Tripura Santiniketan Medical College Achieves Continental Recognition with Asia Book of Records Entry

Tripura Santiniketan Medical College has once again etched its name in the annals of history, this time achieving continental recognition by securing a place in the Asia Book of Records. This prestigious honour follows the institution’s recent entry into the India Book of Records, marking a remarkable feat for the burgeoning medical college.

A grand ceremony was held this morning at the college premises, where Shri Sanjay Bhola Dhir, a renowned mask artist and representative from the Asia Book of Records, formally conferred the recognition upon the college authorities. The Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and local MLA, Shri Ramprasad Paul, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished personalities, including former Director of Health Services Dr. Satya Ranjan Debbarma, veteran journalist and editor of Sandhan Mr. Subal Dey, editor Mr. Nabyendu Bhattacharya, medical college vice-president Mr. Sougata Pit, and numerous other dignitaries.

This achievement is being celebrated as a significant milestone for Tripura Santiniketan Medical College, its students, and the entire health education landscape of Tripura.

According to the Asia Book of Records, Tripura Santiniketan Medical College has established a new benchmark by enrolling the highest number of students from across India in its inaugural academic session. Representative Sanjay Bhola Dhir emphasized the unprecedented nature of this achievement among 48 Asian countries. For the 2024–25 academic year, the college welcomed students from an impressive 21 different Indian states – a feat unmatched by any other newly established medical college in Asia.

Established with the vision of delivering world-class medical education, Tripura Santiniketan Medical College commenced its first academic session in 2024. In its very first year, it successfully attracted a diverse cohort of students from nearly every corner of India. While Tripura contributed the largest number of students (47),

the college also boasts representation from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.

This exceptional start underscores the college’s potential to emerge as a leading health education center in the country, having already garnered the trust of meritorious students and their parents nationwide.

During the felicitation ceremony, Shri Sanjay Bhola Dhir presented the official certificate, medal, and recognition from the Asia Book of Records to the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Shri Ramprasad Paul, medical college vice-president Sougata Pit, and Principal, Professor Dr. Sanjoy Nath.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Speaker Shri Ramprasad Paul hailed the college as a “Mini India” with students from 21 states. He expressed immense pride in this achievement, not only for the institution but for the entire region. He lauded the establishment of a fully functional medical college within a short span of two years under the leadership of President Malay Pit as “truly extraordinary” and the international recognition as “nothing short of remarkable.”

Acknowledging the initial hurdles, Shri Paul remarked on the transformation of the area from a forest to a center of development, emphasizing that progress comes through action.

College President Dr. Malay Pit expressed his profound joy, stating, “Today is a moment of great pride. Tripura Santiniketan Medical College has earned a place of distinction among 48 countries in Asia. This recognition by the Asia Book of Records is not just for the college or for our Swadhin Trust, but for all the people of Tripura and the nation.” He added that this honour, following the India Book of Records recognition, reaffirms the institution’s commitment to educational excellence.

The students of the college celebrated this momentous occasion with vibrant cultural performances showcasing the diverse traditions of the 21 represented states.

Experts believe that this significant achievement by Tripura Santiniketan Medical College will greatly benefit the healthcare education sector in the state and attract an even greater influx of students in the years to come.
