Santiniketan Mela and SMC Med Expo Mark a Milestone in Healthcare and Humanity

Setting a strong example of healthcare-driven social responsibility, a felicitation and reflection programme was held on Monday at the campus of Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital following the successful conclusion of the four-day Santiniketan Mela and SMC Med Expo. The event brought together doctors, social workers, volunteers, and eminent personalities, sending out a united message of medical service, compassion, and community commitment.

During the programme, organisers shared insights into the overall journey, achievements, and public response to the Santiniketan Mela and the medical expo. Speakers noted that the massive public participation clearly showed that the initiative was much more than a conventional fair or exhibition. It evolved into a people-centric movement that effectively linked health awareness, education, and social service. Particular importance was given to its impact on rural and marginalised communities, where access to health information and basic medical guidance remains limited.

A major highlight of the day was the felicitation of nearly 300 distinguished doctors from various disciplines. Their professional excellence, tireless service, and humanitarian contributions were formally recognised. Many of the honoured doctors expressed that such appreciation strengthens their resolve to continue serving society, especially the underprivileged.

Another important segment focused on Thalassemia awareness. Medical professionals explained the causes of the disease, its hereditary nature, preventive strategies, and the importance of blood screening before marriage. They stressed that lack of awareness and irregular health check-ups are key reasons behind the spread of Thalassemia, underlining the need for sustained public education on the issue.

In a powerful display of social responsibility, the organisers also arranged a community lunch for around 5,000 people from Muluk and nearby areas. This initiative was widely appreciated and stood as a living example of empathy, inclusiveness, and service to humanity.

Addressing the gathering, Malay Pit, founder of Positive Barta, said,
“Our commitment goes beyond events. Regular health awareness programmes, free medical camps, and continuous community welfare activities will remain our priority. We aim to ensure that quality healthcare awareness reaches every section of society.”

Overall, the programme reinforced the wider social impact of the Santiniketan Fair and SMC Med Expo. Participants felt that the initiative was not only a celebration of collective effort, but also a clear step towards expanding long-term humanitarian and healthcare-oriented work in the region and beyond.
