Newspaper: খবরের কাগজ বা এমনি কাগজ যাই হোক না কেন, যেকোনও কাগজই মূলত তৈরি হয় কাঠ থেকে। আর এই কাঠে প্রাথমিকভাবে থাকে দুটি উপকরণ- একটি হল সেলুলোজ ও অন্যটি লিগনিন।
কাগজে থাকা এই সেলুলোজ এবং লিগনিন সূর্যালোকের উপস্থিতিতে বায়ুর মধ্যে থাকা অক্সিজেনের দ্বারা জারিত হয়। আর তার ফলেই কাগজ-পত্র হলুদাভ বাদামী রঙ ধারণ করে।
যে কাগজে লিগনিনের পরিমাণ বেশি থাকে সেই কাগজ তাড়াতাড়ি হলুদ হয়। এই কারণেই খবরের কাগজ বই-এর তুলনায় তাড়াতাড়ি হলুদ হয়ে যায়।

This cellulose and lignin in the paper are oxidized by the oxygen in the air in the presence of sunlight. As a result, the paper turns yellowish-brown.
Paper that has a high amount of lignin turns yellow quickly. This is why the newspaper turns yellow faster than the book.
