It has been told in history that on the 10th of the month of Muharram, Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad, was martyred in the battle of Karbala. He sacrificed himself to protect Islam.
In this war, 72 of his companions were also martyred with him. Karbala is a city in Iraq, where the tomb of Hazrat Imam Hussein was built on the same spot where the confrontation between Imam Hussein and Yazid’s army took place. This place is located about 120 km from Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
Muharram 2022: So they are removed
On the day of Muharram, the people of the Shia community of Islam mourn by taking out the crown. In fact, the place where the tomb of Imam Hussain is built, symbolically a procession is taken out by making tazias of the same size.
In this procession, Muslim people mourn all the way and together they also say, or Hussain, we did not happen. People mourn by saying that Hussain, we were not with you in the battle of Karbala, otherwise we too would have sacrificed our lives to protect Islam.
It is said that these Tajis are considered to be the symbols of the martyrs of the battle of Karbala. The procession starts from Imambara and ends at Karbala and all the tazias are buried there. Muslims wear black clothes on this day to signify mourning. The stories of the sacrifices of the ancestors are narrated in the procession, so that today’s generation can understand its importance and know the value of life.
