Why PG Medical Seats Increased in 2025–26

The seat increase happened mainly due to:

  • Approval of new PG courses
  • Seat enhancement in existing MD/MS programs
  • Decisions taken by the First Appeal Committee of NMC
  • Colleges meeting updated infrastructure, faculty, and hospital norms

The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), under NMC, officially approved these seats and clarified that counselling authorities do not need to wait for individual LOPs to include them in counselling. This is a crucial change for candidates.

Official Confirmation by NMC

According to the NMC public notice dated 31 December 2025, all additional PG seats granted for AY 2025–26 are:

  • Valid for counselling
  • Approved after appeal review
  • To be included by MCC and State Counselling Authorities
  • LOPs will be issued separately but are not mandatory for counselling inclusion

Based on the consolidated NMC list till date, hundreds of MD/MS seats have been increased across multiple states and specialties.
