Media’s Power Should Be Used: Bulu Chik Baraik, Minister-in-Charge of the Backward Classes Welfare Department of West Bengal, emphasized the immense power of the media and urged journalists to use it for the greater good, focusing on positive news. He made these remarks at the formal inauguration of the West Bengal Media Forum’s Dooars region meeting held Sunday at Udichi Hall in Malbazar.
Minister Baraik, along with Positive Bartaโs MD, Malay Pit, and other dignitaries, began the event by paying tribute to poet Bhanu Bhakta and tribal leader Birsa Munda. The meeting drew a diverse crowd of prominent figures, including Padma Shri awardees Karimul Haque and Manglakanto Roy, All India Imam Association President Md. Bakibillah Molla, and representatives from various social and professional organizations.
The West Bengal Media Forum, established to champion the rights of digital journalists and foster a positive media environment, focuses on inclusivity across all media sectors, particularly digital media professionals.
Sunday’s meeting addressed critical issues facing the media landscape, including current operations and future plans for the forum, journalism and media development, press freedom and responsibility, and the media’s role in social welfare. Discussions underscored the importance of strengthening local media and ensuring the dissemination of accurate information.
Anil Thapa, the chief organizer, stressed the need for unity among journalists to secure their rightful dues. Speakers shared their perspectives on responsible media practices and the crucial role of media in safeguarding democracy. Strategic plans were formulated to bolster media presence in the Dooars region and make it more community-centric.
Malay Pit, MD of Positive Barta, highlighted the potential of positive news to revitalize the industry and create employment opportunities for Bengal’s youth. โBy delivering positive news, we can restore an industry-friendly environment in the state and create significant employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of Bengal,” Pit stated.
He added that Positive Barta, with the support of the West Bengal Media Forum, has already started broadcasting positive news via cable networks. Looking ahead, Pit announced plans to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and expand reach through satellite platforms to showcase India’s culture, literature, and heritage to a global audience.
