Educational Qualification and Age Criteria
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Education: Pass Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) from a recognized board
- Mathematics and English are compulsory subjects
- Local language of the postal circle must be studied up to Class 10
- Age Limit:
- Minimum: 18 years
- Maximum: 40 years (as on the last date of application)
- Age relaxation applies for SC, ST, OBC, and PwBD candidates as per government rules
Additional requirements include basic computer knowledge, ability to ride a bicycle, and having an alternative source of income.
Salary and Allowances (TRCA)
GDS employees are paid under the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system, along with Dearness Allowance and social security benefits.
- BPM: ₹12,000 to ₹29,380 per month
- ABPM / Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470 per month
There is an annual increment of 3%, subject to performance and rules.
How Selection Is Done

- Selection is based on Class 10 marks only
- Marks are calculated up to four decimal places
- If grades are given, they are converted automatically by the system
- In case of a tie, priority is decided by age, category, and gender-based rules
