DRDO Scientists Building Human-Like Robots for Our Soldiers
A top scientist, Mr. S E Talole, from the DRDO lab in charge of this, said that his team has been working on this exciting project for the last four years. They’ve already built working models of these robots’ top and bottom parts. These models have successfully shown that they can do certain things in tests.
The big idea is to use these human-like robots in difficult places, like thick jungles. Recently, the team showed off one of their robots in Pune. Right now, they are focusing on making sure the robot understands and follows commands from people perfectly.
These robots work using three main things:
parts that act like our muscles to move, sensors that see and feel what’s around them, and a smart control system that tells them what to do based on the information from the sensors.
Mr. Talole explained that making the robot move smoothly is a big challenge. It needs to balance, process information quickly, and do things accurately. Another scientist on the team, Kiran Akella, hopes they will finish the project by 2027.

DRDO officials believe that robots with legs, like humans and animals, can be very useful in many areas. Besides defense, they could help in security, hospitals, homes, space exploration, and factories. However, they also know it’s not easy to build robots that can walk and work well on their own.
The scientists explained that the robot’s upper body will have light arms that can move in many ways, just like our arms. This will allow the robot to do tasks like grabbing things, turning handles, opening doors, and moving around obstacles, especially in risky situations.
The robot’s arms will even be able to work together to handle dangerous things like bombs and chemicals safely. The goal is for these robots to work well in different situations, day or night, inside or outside. They will have sensors to see and hear, and they will be able to understand their surroundings.
The human-like robot will also be able to stay balanced if it falls or gets pushed. It will create maps of its surroundings in real-time and figure out how to move around on its own. This will be very important for doing complex tasks in dangerous places.
This important work by DRDO scientists is a big step towards using advanced robots to protect our country and our soldiers. It could make military operations much safer and more effective.
