Aadhaar Authentication App: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced a new rule for doctorsโ attendance in government medical colleges and hospitals across India. Starting October 1, 2025, doctors will no longer be allowed to mark attendance using the traditional biometric fingerprint or facial QR code systems. Instead, attendance must now be recorded through a mobile app based on Aadhaar-enabled facial recognition technology.
Earlier, doctors in government hospitals used either biometric fingerprint scanners or facial QR codes to register their presence. However, the NMC, in its latest circular dated September 26, announced that these older methods would be discontinued. The new โFace-Based Aadhaar Authentication Appโ, first introduced in May 2025, is now mandatory for all government medical institutions.
This change comes after repeated complaints about irregular attendance among doctors in public hospitals. Several patients had alleged that some doctors skipped government duty hours to attend to patients in private chambers. In response, the NMC decided to strengthen monitoring and transparency in attendance systems.

According to the NMC, this new digital method will make attendance marking more secure, transparent, and convenient for doctors and hospital staff. The commission also instructed all government hospitals to remove the previously installed QR code systems from hospital walls.
The NMC stated that the decision was made to ensure better discipline and accountability among medical professionals while simplifying the attendance process through Aadhaar-based face recognition.
