, BEL has invited applications for the post of Advisor (Transducer Projects) on a temporary contractual basis for its Naval Systems (S&CS) SBU in Bengaluru.
This role is aimed at strengthening India’s indigenous sonar and underwater transducer capabilities for the Indian Navy and commercial markets.
A Strategic Role in Sonar and Underwater Systems (BEL Invites Veteran Defence Scientists)
The selected Advisor will guide the design and development of low, medium, and high-frequency sonar systems. The focus will be on underwater transducers, a critical component in naval sensing and surveillance systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on system-level design and specification development
- Mathematical modelling and parameter optimization of transducers
- Supporting hardware development with miniaturization concepts
- Overseeing environmental testing as per military standards
- Assisting in beam pattern estimation and calibration processes
- Supporting field trials and system performance evaluation
- Training and mentoring BEL engineers in advanced transducer technologies
The role also involves collaboration with DRDO labs, OEMs, certification agencies, and end users to ensure seamless development and deployment of sonar projects
Who Can Apply?
BEL is seeking retired senior scientists and technical experts with deep domain expertise in underwater transducer technology.
Eligibility Criteria:
- M.Sc., B.Tech, or M.Tech in Physics, Material Science, Metallurgy, Electronics, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
- Ph.D. preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the transducer field
- Must have retired as Scientist-G/Scientist-F/Outstanding Scientist/Director/Associate Director or equivalent from DRDO, national R&D labs, or reputed academic institutions
- Maximum age: 66 years as on 01.02.2026
- Indian citizenship is mandatory
Candidates with experience in sonar systems for the Indian Navy, research publications, patents, and strong problem-solving abilities will have an advantage.
Tenure, Compensation and Work Mode
The appointment will initially be for one year, extendable up to a minimum overall tenure of three years based on performance and requirement
Remuneration Structure:
- Consolidated monthly pay equivalent to the last drawn basic pay at superannuation
- 5% annual increase upon extension
- Additional 5% per year for relevant post-retirement experience, subject to selection committee discretion
The Advisor will function in hybrid mode, working at least eight days per month from BEL’s Bengaluru unit. TA/DA benefits, guest house accommodation during official travel, and conveyance reimbursement are provided as per applicable norms
Confidentiality and Professional Standards
Applicants bound by existing confidentiality-cum-non-compete agreements with previous employers are not eligible. Upon selection, the Advisor will be required to enter into a similar agreement with BEL
