West Bengal Launches “Banglar Yuva-Sathi” Scheme to Support Unemployed Youth

Banglar Yuva-Sathi: The West Bengal government has rolled out a new welfare initiative called the Banglar Yuva-Sathi scheme aimed at supporting educated and unemployed youth across the state. Announced in the interim state budget ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the programme promises monthly financial assistance to eligible candidates as they search for employment.

Under the scheme, unemployed young residents of West Bengal between the ages of 21 and 40 who have successfully passed at least the Madhyamik (10th standard) examination will be eligible to receive ₹1,500 per month. The benefit will continue for up to five years or until the recipient secures a job, whichever comes first.

The government has organised special registration camps in every assembly constituency between February 15 and 26 to assist applicants with the submission process. Officials say applications will be collected physically at these camps, and the application process is expected to be digitised later on.

According to the public notice seen by reporters, applicants must bring the following documents in original and photocopy form when applying: an Aadhaar card, Madhyamik or equivalent exam mark sheet/certificate, proof of educational qualification, bank account details, passport-size photograph, and a mobile phone number for registration.

The state government is promoting the scheme as a financial bridge for job seekers during the challenging early years of career building, especially given rising unemployment. Beneficiaries of other major welfare programmes may still apply for the youth allowance, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Officials expect the Banglar Yuva-Sathi initiative to benefit millions of young people across West Bengal, giving them both financial support and encouragement as they work toward securing stable employment.

Who Can Benefit?

The scheme is primarily targeted at unemployed youth residing in West Bengal. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a permanent resident of West Bengal
  • Be between 21 and 40 years of age
  • Have passed at least the Madhyamik (Class 10) or equivalent examination
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Possess an active bank account in their name

The initiative is expected to benefit a large number of educated job seekers who are struggling due to limited employment opportunities.

  • The assistance will continue for up to five years or until the beneficiary secures employment, whichever comes earlier.

The government has stated that this financial aid will help youth manage basic expenses, apply for jobs, and prepare for competitive exams without extreme financial pressure.

  2. Madhyamik or equivalent examination admit card
