But currently, every router has an option called WPS enabled by default. WPS is an alternative method of passwords. You can connect to WiFi with the router’s WPS Key without password. This key is 7-8 digits.
There are many mobile apps that try to connect to WiFi with possible WPS keys. If luck is good then may connect. But its probability is less than 5%. It is also possible to find out this key with a brute force attack. But it is very time-consuming. Try all numbers with 7-8 digits one by one. It can take up to 1/2 year to figure out the password using this method even with a computer.
There is a button on the router called the WPS button. Pressing this button allows you to connect to WiFi without a password for some time. If someone presses this button without your knowledge, then they will be able to connect to your WiFi very easily.
How to secure your router?
- Always keep the router’s firmware updated.
- Always use the latest security.
- Currently, the latest security is WPA2-PSK Turn off the WPS option from the router’s admin panel.
- Keep a password of 10-15 characters. A combination of alphabets, numbers and special characters makes the password stronger.
- Do not use passwords that can be easily guessed by others.
